Why Forestry Mulching?
The traditional methods for clearing land all come with their own problems. Using multiple large pieces of equipment runs a higher risk of damaging the environment. While clearing by hand is time-consuming and tedious.
Forestry mulching and mastication eliminates some of those problems. Mulching invasive plants and vegetation directly at the site eliminates many steps from traditional clearing processes. Instead of site prep, felling trees & cutting brush, hauling them away or burning them, and finally clearing the area, you can simply have the overgrowth turned into mulch on the spot! One machine can acheive the same results as 4 or 5, without causing damage to the land in the process.
Long Term Benefits
Immediately after a forest mulching project is complete, your property will look much cleaner. The improved appearance can increase your property value instantly, and there are several long-term benefits as well:
- Leaving root systems intact prevents erosion
- Reduces risk and provides the best defense against wildfires
- Removing invasive species prevents them from spreading
- Creating mulch builds topsoil to offer more nutrients to your remaining plants
- Clearing overgrowth makes the land more usable
There are many reasons for choosing forestry mulching as a form of forest management or brush removal. Your specific benefits will depend on your property and your reason for the project.
Popular Questions
What are your prices?
Many factors go into our pricing. Including but not limited to: type and thickness of vegetation, terrain, location of the property, current fuel price, etc. For that reason, we always set our eyes on a project before we even consider pricing. Once we have walked the site and discussed your wants, needs and expectations we will prepare a proposal for you to review at your leisure. “Hidden surprises” pop up out in the woods all the time – but we won’t let your final bill to be a surprise, too!
Are stumps left behind?
Stumps are mulched flush to the ground. You’ll still be able to see them from a short distance away but they will not interfere with regular driving and mowing activities.
What size trees can you mulch?
For purposes of efficiency, we typically will mulch trees 6” in diameter at breast height or smaller. Can we do larger? Yes. However, they do take longer to process. A lot of times, larger timber is better left to be felled instead of mulched, and used for firewood, timber, etc. Our services can help you manage well established and older growth timber to ensure strong, healthy, trees to clear/log out when the time comes.
Will the trees/brush re-grow?
Keeping the area maintained (we recommend brush hogging once or twice a year at the very least) will hamper the trees and brush from growing back and flourishing. If the area is left unmaintained it will most definitely return to its pre-mulched state as time passes.
